Why this book

You are not broken. You never were.

Your life can look fine from the outside and still feel divided on the inside — performing, managing, pushing through a quiet weariness that sleep never seems to fix. Overwhelmed? LifeScaping is the map back to yourself.

This is not one more program that treats you as a problem to be fixed.

It begins from the opposite truth: the best of who you are was never destroyed — only covered over — and it can be reclaimed.

Drawing on more than forty years of work and his own near-fatal turning point, therapist Kevin Brough blends real, evidence-based psychology with hard-won wisdom, spiritual depth, and warmth.

The premise

Most change fails at the same place

Not at insight. People arrive at insight all the time — in a good session, a hard conversation, a book that names something exactly. Insight is not the bottleneck.

Change fails in the gap between understanding something and living differently because of it. LifeScaping is built around that gap: a structured way to survey the whole terrain of a life, see honestly which parts are cultivated and which have gone untended, and then work the ground rather than admire the map.

How the book moves

Three parts, twenty chapters

One — Master Awareness

Finding your center and standing in it. Who you are, how you were shaped and how you learned to protect yourself, the inner critic and the shadow, your emotions, the practice of presence, and a map of the whole self.

Two — Reclaim Your Innate Skills

You are not broken. The brain that can change, the perception of potential pain, belief-busting, the Releasing Practice, and the Significant Event Process — the working tools.

Three — Become Congruent With Your True Intent

The higher path, your governing purpose, designing your life, the daily practice, staying on the path when it gets hard, and what a life well lived actually looks like.

Closing with a glossary, an appendix of the practices, further reading, and full notes and sources.

What you'll learn

Six things this book will teach you

Find your center

A stable place to stand that does not depend on the day going well. Not positive thinking — a practised return to the part of you that was never in trouble.

See the whole map

Where your life is genuinely thriving, and where it is quietly starving. Most people are surprised by which is which.

Name the limits

The beliefs you inherited and never audited, running quietly underneath choices you think you are making freely.

Quiet the inner critic

Not silenced, not argued with. Understood well enough that it stops having the last word.

Work with emotion

Emotions as information rather than weather. What each one is actually reporting, and what it is asking you to do.

Make it stick

The step most self-help skips: turning hard-won awareness into change that survives contact with an ordinary Tuesday.

Find balance and inner peace
Break free of limiting beliefs
Build deeper relationships
Quiet your inner critic
Come home to your true self
Master your emotions

About the author

Forty years of listening, and one turning point of his own

Kevin Brough, MAMFT, CHT, is a marriage and family therapist, certified clinical hypnotherapist, and coach with more than forty years guiding people through recovery, trauma, and life's hardest transitions. He is the creator of the LifeScaping and MindScaping transformation systems and President of VisionLogic, LLC.

He writes from both chairs. After his own traumatic yet transformational life events in 2001, he trained across clinical hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed systemic therapies — the same body of work this book draws on.

After the last page

The book teaches it. MyLifeScaping is where you live it.

Reading changes what you understand. It does not, on its own, change what you do on a Tuesday afternoon. That gap is the whole problem this book is built around, and one book cannot close it alone.

MyLifeScaping is the online therapeutic system that carries the practices in these chapters into daily life — the Vantage Point, the Releasing Practice, Belief-Busting, the Significant Event Process, the Peace Building Process — with the structure and repetition that turn a practice into a habit. The book is the map. The system is the walking.
